Bryn Athyn Barracudas Summer 2022!
Hello Bryn Athyn Swim families!
We are excited to let everyone know about the 2022 summer swim
season at Bryn Athyn! Once again we will offer a week of Swim Camp before Swim
Team starts. We have updated and opened the registration pages on Swimtopia with the information that we currently know. We’ll continue to update Swimtopia and send emails as the season gets closer and the schedule finalizes. Below are the bullet points for
now.
Coaches!
We have a dream team coaching the Barracudas this year! Riley Sheehan and Mia
Peng are back, and we are very excited to welcome Jude Blumhardt to
our coaching staff this year!
Swim Camp: June 13-17
Please note that camp is not swim lessons. Swimmers should feel comfortable in the water including the deep end, be able to put their face in the water, blow bubbles, and move around (even if it’s only doggie paddle). Our goal is for campers to feel confident in the pool and be able to swim a lap by the end of camp. Many campers love it and continue with swim team, and go on to earn their white tags, which we love.
Please feel free to discuss with the coaches any goals or concerns you have for your swimmers. We want this to be a great experience for the kids!
Swim Team: June 20 - July 31 (estimated)
- Optional evening practice in the two weeks before team officially starts: June 7, 9, 14, 16
- Regular practices start
June 20. Tentative times:
- Sharks swimmers (ages 11 - 18): 8:00 - 9:30 am
- Dolphins swimmers (ages 6 - 10): 9:15 - 10:15 am
- Minnows swimmers (ages 5-6): 9:45 -10:30 am
- Optional "Committed
Swimmer" practices start June 22: M-W-F, 7 am – 8 am
- We are hoping to continue morning swims for both team members who want more pool time as well as adults in the community.
- Meets are held Tuesday and Thursday evenings in late June through July. The league finalizes the schedule in April/May and we will keep you posted.
Welcome Swimmers Who Are Not in the Bryn Athyn Community
We are welcoming swimmers to join our team who are not members of the swim club or the Bryn Athyn community. Unfortunately, some teams and clubs in our league have had to shut down and we would welcome those swimmers to join the Barracudas, as well as any other swimmers who are not already on a summer team. Spread the word, tell your friends, grow our awesome team!
Stroke and Turn Judges
We will need some parents to volunteer to be trained as stroke and turn judges and/or starting officials, and to do these jobs in a couple of meets. We know it sounds intimidating but please know that you can do this! You will be trained, and summer swim is a relaxed environment. If several people do it, each will only have to work at one or two meets. This is such a critical role that we are offering a discount on registration for your swimmers if you volunteer for this, and Bryn Athyn will host a stroke and turn clinic for the league.
Fundraising
We want to do some more fundraising in addition to the Swim-a-thon this year. If you have ideas or are interested in helping with this, please let us know.
Volunteering:
Swim teams cannot run without parent volunteers. In addition to asking for parent volunteers to work at the meets, we are going to ask for help from time to time. If there is anything you would like to offer that we don’t think of, please let us know!
Look for more emails in the coming weeks from the team president(s) as well as our awesome and excited coaches, and feel free to reach out with any questions. So excited for summer swim!
-Kristin
